The area is visited by flash floods and archaeological evidence demonstrates the Nabataeans controlled these floods by the use of dams, cisterns and water conduits. These innovations stored water for prolonged periods of drought, and enabled the city to prosper from its sale.Al Khazneh is one of the most elaborate temples in the ancient Edomite city of Petra. As with most of the other buildings in this ancient town, including the Monastery, this structure was carved out of a sandstone rock face. It has classical Greek-influenced architecture, and is a popular tourist attraction.Al Khazneh is one of more than 800 monuments in Petra. Much of the city is still underground.Al Khazneh, also known as the Treasury, is one of the most impressive sites of ancient Petra.
